A quick rundown of steps:

- Got the main render which was already perfectly sized, and duplicated it to fill the entire canvas with copies of the render. I then brought the main layer to the top and positioned it
- Next, I merge all of the duplicated renders into one layer, Gaussian blurred then Noise Picked (random seed), motion blurred again and then Gaussian blurred again.
-Then I made a new layer, got a brush and brushed white with 5 clicks, spread out around the canvas. I set teh layer to overlay and repeated with different colours.
-I used the Lava script-fu and set the gradient to Deep Sea. Once it had made itself I set the layer to overlay and played about with the opacity once I'd put it between the background layer of duplicated renders and the main render layer.
-I made a new layer and used the sparks tool and brushed around a bit. Then I went to Map>Displace and set it to Polar. Then I desaturated and set the layer to dodge. I then put it behind the main render.
-I then made another new layer and put it on top. I copied visible and pasted then anchored it to the new layer. I set that layer to Overlay.
-I used the Sans text at a large size and set the text to overlay, which gave a great effect.
-Then I brushed white with a soft grunge brush at the tip of Samus's foot and set the layer to Grain merge at 60% opacity.
-Finally, I made the Foreground colour blue and the Background colour orange and then used a gradient map fill using the FG and BG colours, and set the layer to overlay.

That's how I remember doing it, although I did add a C4D in there at some point.
